A Brief History:
In the early 1970s, a group of prominent Egyptian-American
leaders recognized the need for creating an Egyptian-American
association. The leaders included Mr. Fouad Munib, Dr. Ahmed
El-Nagar, Mr. George Milad, Dr. Dousoky Dousoky, Dr. Abdel
Fattah Abdalla, Mr. Salah Negm, and others who embarked on
a vision and a mission towards promoting greater interaction
among Egyptian-Americans in the Washington Metropolitan Area.
They also recognized the need to encourage effective participation
of the new generations, to provide the Egyptian-American community
with cultural and social activities, where a sense of unity
and belonging are strengthened, to maintain, to promote and
to celebrate all aspects of our rich heritage, and to foster
mutual understanding between the Egyptian-American Community
and the community at large. One of the major goals of the
founders was to maintain and strengthen greater ties with
Egypt.
Based on that great spirit, the dedication and extraordinary
efforts by the leaders and the support and the enthusiasm
of many members of the community, the Egyptian American Cultural
Association, EACA, was established.
Our Mission:
EACA is a non- profit, non-political and non-religious association.
After over 30 years of its establishment, EACA's main entity
remains the same as was designed by the founders in the early
1970s. The main mission was and still is to focus primarily
on promoting greater interaction among the Egyptian-American
Community, to engage young generations not only as participants
but also as decision makers, to maintain and celebrate our
rich culture, to provide the community with social and cultural
activities where a sense of belonging and unity are strengthened,
to build alliance with other organizations, to promote mutual
understanding with the community at large, and to continue
to build bridges to strengthen our ties with Egypt.
